We had some unexpected visitors at the office last week.  Seems their mother didn’t come home one night and left her youngsters (estimated to be 2-1/2 weeks old) to fend for themselves.  After leaving them for another night with no parent returning, they were picked up by North Coast Wildlife Rescue.  They will be raised with a lot of other orphan raccoons as one big litter and then introduced to the world.  We were told that this has been a big year for raccoon rescue.

Do you realize that you still have time to enjoy summer at the beach, on your own property or in your own beach home?  Qualified buyers can close quickly and take advantage of the fun stuff happening here during the summer months.  I can recommend lenders, home inspectors, anything you need - just come on down and pick out a place!

I’ve heard that warmer weather is on the way. Doesn’t that just figure? I’m heading to a “retreat” of sorts, for weavers and spinners. Well, another month has come to an end. April showers are supposed to bring May flowers so let’s keep our fingers crossed. We haven’t had snow in over a week now….I wish I had really great news about the real estate market here but right now it’s a bit stagnant. I do have high hopes for summer (the eternal optimist, my husband calls me). If you’ve been following real estate for years, you know about the “cycles” and how real estate is up then down. If nothing else, it has taught me how to budget! The current market is similar to the market about 5 years ago (and off-and-on during all the years before). We didn’t see many buyers in the winter, picked up a bit in late spring to early summer, ran ourselves ragged from July through about October, then had time to catch our breath as it slowed down as we headed into winter.

Many people ask if it’s a buyer’s market and I suppose in a way it is because there’s a lot of inventory out there. On the other hand, I would say the majority of sellers here are not in a “must sell” situation and are willing to wait it out. There have been a lot of price reductions but if you’re looking for a home, don’t wait thinking the prices are going to go down. And don’t wait for the gas prices to go down before you come to the beach!

COMING UP AT THE BEACH:Mother’s Day is May 11 - don’t forget her!May 3-7 Clamming on the AM Tides

Loyalty Day events start May 3 - just some of the activities are Living History at Fort Columbia, Kid’s Parade in Ilwaco, Blessing of the Fleet, traditional salmon Chinook dinner and fair, oyster feed in Long Beach and of course, the Cowboy Breakfast and Progression of Liberty Parade.

Saturday Market at the Port of Ilwaco begins this weekend and runs through September 27.

April 21 - a day that will live in infamy. Who would have expected that it would snow this late in the season? It doesn’t snow that often at the beach and I think we might have set some sort of record. But, life really is better at the beach, whatever the weather.Last week I introduced you to my husband, Charlie, who is now selling real estate with me. This week, meet the “kids”. Yes, dogs are great, but cats just seem to work in with our lifestyle. Here they are and please forgive the spacing - I’m still learning!
